Also inherent in travel are opportunities to practice curiosity, empathy, generosity, and kindness with other human beings who are also leaving someplace, going somewhere else, or who are temporarily stuck.
How do we shift our habits? We start by becoming aware of them and really getting to know them...by paying attention to what we are doing and how we are being.
When the universe broadcasts a clear message not one, but three times, in a very condensed period of frame, that gets my attention!The message was about releasing or flowing with a challenge as compared to carrying/grasping or pushing against it.
Here we are in the holidays – the ultimate season of remembrance, giving, and dedication. We practice rituals in which we light candles in gratitude for and celebration of family life and unity (Kwanzaa – Dec. 26-Jan. 1, African), in remembrance of those who are no longer with us (St. Lucia Day – Dec. 13, Scandinavian), legendary journeys (Las Posadas – Dec. 16-24, Mexican), and to acknowledge ancient miracles (Christmas – Dec. 25, Christian; and Hannukah – Dec. 2-10, 2018, Jewish); we share gifts (Boxing Day – Dec. 26, United Kingdom); and we eat special foods (Ōmisoka – Dec. 31, Japanese).
Simple gratitude practices such as remembering our blessings and making a gratitude list on a daily basis can reduce negative emotional states, improve our happiness, and enhance our mental health and well-being.
Fall is probably my favorite season, and part of the reason is Halloween, and the centuries-old ritual or custom of wearing costumes, or ”guising” (impersonating the spirts or souls of the dead)...
Letting go is a way of celebrating this Fall season, when deciduous trees shed their leaves. It also symbolizes taking action towards a lighter and potentially more authentic way of being in and enjoying life.
Nature provides a supportive and healing environment in which to slow down, be in the moment, and reflect on those changes.
