The Idea
I recently learned about making single serving cakes in a mug. You simple take any flavor cake mix, mix in water and chocolate chips and microwave for 50 seconds. Top with a squirt of aerated whipping cream and enjoy. The shocking thing is that this really comes out great AND it is only 150 calories! (Full disclosure; we prefer a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top, so that adds a few extra calories).
After giving this ‘recipe’ a whirl, I decided that I could use this idea for a fun gift for our niece, Amanda. She is a busy Freshman in college and could probably use a little ‘pick-me-up’.
The Care Package
I went on line and designed and ordered a personalized mug. Pulled together all the ingredients she would need, including measuring spoons and a birthday candle which I taped to the side of the cake box. I made a couple of cards and put it all together in a care package. (There was a little extra room in the box so I filled it to the brim with a variety of chocolate candies.)
It has been a few weeks, so here is hoping that it got there – with the mug still in one piece – and that she is enjoying some treats between study sessions.
