A Week In Switzerland

We have enjoyed an absolutely beautiful, warm and sunny autumn this year in the PNW, but recently, the weather has made a swift and blustery change which has included a brief installment of snow. With the change of season; we will be turning our clocks back an hour tonight to return to standard time, we are rediscovering our (almost forgotten) sweaters and coats, and soon we will be decorating for the holidays and gathering with friends and family to enjoy the fun that winter brings. Things are slowing down and there is time to enjoy a good book and take a few ‘trips‘ down memory lane. One such trip was a magical adventure we took a few years ago.  Our journey began with our  friends, Doug and Jude, picking us up to take us to the airport in the early hours of November 12, 2019.

The words “journal” and “journey” are derived from the same root, “jour,” a French word which means “day.”
Today, I am sharing the travel journal I wrote of our spectacular journey to and through Switzerland. It is filled with all the wonderful places we stayed, how much things cost and all the many great experiences we had while we were there. I hope you enjoy this virtual adventure to one of the most enchanting of places, SWITZERLAND!

Why Switzerland?

A few months ago, my husband posed a question to me; would I prefer to accompany him on a work trip to Washington D.C. or take a trip to Zurich in November…. ya, pretty much a no-brainer…
Why Zurich, of course! While I do love Washington D.C., the idea of spending time in another country with my favorite person in the world sent me over the moon.

When I think about Switzerland, I think of; Heidi, mountains, cheese– fondue, raclette, chocolate, banks, watches, Albert Einstein, Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka. Switzerland is a place known for a long list of inventions like Velcro, cellophane, the Swiss Army Knife, absinthe, the potato peeler, Helvetica font, LSD, Muesli, edible chocolate gold and milk chocolate. Switzerland is second only to Japan for the average longest life expectancy and we get to go and check this place out! WooHoo!!!!

The Plan

There is something you should know about my husband–he is a TRAVEL GENIUS! This man knows how to ferret out; where to go, what to do, where to stay, how to get there, the best way to do it for the best deal and in what order. It is really quite an amazing talent!

So David went to work and designed a comprehensive itinerary through Switzerland; full of spectacular sites, beautiful places to stay, wonderful food, unique and interesting transportation opportunities and memories to last a lifetime.

Over the past month, or so, I have been working on a travel journal of this fabulous trip and filled it with LOTS of details; pictures from each place we visited, links to the places we stayed and dined, how much things cost and little pointers we learned along the way. This journal is called,  SWISSING AN IDEAand it is ready for any and all who might be interested in learning more about this delightful place and how we spent our time there.

I hope you enjoy it, and if you do, please drop me a line. I would love to hear from you.
